# Upgrade or downgrade a plan

> Move to a bigger or smaller plan without losing your data.

**1. Open the service**

Click **Services** in the top menu (page: **My Products & Services**), then open the service you want to change.

**2. Choose Upgrade/Downgrade**

In the left-hand menu, click **Upgrade/Downgrade**. You'll see the plans you can move to.

**3. Select the new plan and pay**

Pick the plan, review the price and complete checkout.

## How pricing works

You only pay the difference for the rest of your current billing period. The amount is calculated automatically and shown before you confirm. When you downgrade, the price difference is added to your account as credit.

## Things to know

* **Hosting plans:** the change is applied to your account automatically and your files, databases and email stay in place.
* **VPS plans:** upgrades increase CPU, RAM and storage. Your server may restart briefly while resources are applied. VPS plans can't be downgraded, only upgraded. On a VPS you'll also see a separate **Upgrade/Downgrade Options** link. That one changes your add-ons, not your plan.
* **Switching product type** (for example, from shared hosting to a VPS) is a migration, not an upgrade. [Open a ticket](/support/open-a-ticket) and we'll advise.
