# Add domains and subdomains

> Host another website or a subdomain such as shop.yourdomain.com on your hosting account.

You can add extra domains and subdomains to your hosting account in cPanel. This guide shows you how, and how to give each one its own website.

| Type | Example | Typical use |
| - | - | - |
| Subdomain | `shop.yourdomain.com` | A separate section, such as a shop or blog |
| Additional (addon) domain | `yourotherbusiness.in` | A completely separate website on the same hosting |

> [!NOTE]
>
> How many additional domains you can add depends on your hosting plan, and some plans don't include them. You can see your limits under **Statistics** on the cPanel home page. To add more, [upgrade your plan](/billing/upgrade-downgrade.md).

## Add a domain or subdomain

**1. Open Domains**

[Log in to cPanel](/cpanel/log-in-to-cpanel.md), type **Domains** in the **Search Tools** box and open it.

**2. Create a new domain**

Click **Create A New Domain**.

**3. Enter the domain**

Type the full domain, for example `yourotherbusiness.in`, or a subdomain such as `shop.yourdomain.com`.

**4. Choose where its files go**

To make it a separate website, untick the option to share the document root with your main domain. cPanel suggests a folder name for its files. You can keep it.

**5. Submit**

Click **Submit**. The domain is added, and its folder is created.

## Make it work

* **Additional domain:** the domain must point to HostCloud. See [Point your domain to HostCloud](/dns/point-domain-to-hostcloud.md).
* **Subdomain:** if your main domain already uses HostCloud nameservers, the subdomain works automatically.
* **Website files:** upload them to the folder you chose. See [Upload files with File Manager or FTP](/cpanel/upload-files.md).
* **SSL:** a free certificate is issued automatically once the domain points to HostCloud. See [Free SSL with AutoSSL](/ssl/free-autossl.md).

Still stuck? [Open a ticket](/support/open-a-ticket.md) with the domain you're trying to add.
