# Clear the DNS cache on your computer

> See DNS changes straight away by clearing old DNS answers saved on your device.

Your computer and browser save DNS answers for a while to load websites faster. After you change nameservers or DNS records, your device may keep using the old answer. Clearing the cache makes it look up the new one.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Clearing your cache only affects your own device. Other people may still see the old version until the change spreads, which can take up to 24 hours. See [How long DNS changes take to work](/dns/dns-propagation.md).

**Windows**

Open **Command Prompt** (press the **Windows** key, type `cmd`, and press **Enter**) and run:

```bash theme={null}
ipconfig /flushdns
```

You'll see "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache".

**Mac**

Open **Terminal** and run:

```bash theme={null}
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
```

Enter your Mac password when asked. Nothing appears while you type. That's normal.

**Linux**

On most recent distributions, run:

```bash theme={null}
sudo resolvectl flush-caches
```

**Phone**

Turn on **Airplane mode**, wait 10 seconds, then turn it off again. If that doesn't help, restart the phone.

## Clear your browser's cache too

* **Chrome or Edge:** go to `chrome://net-internals/#dns` (or `edge://net-internals/#dns`) and click **Clear host cache**.
* **Any browser:** open your site in a private or incognito window, which ignores most saved data.

## Still seeing the old site?

* Your router or internet provider may also cache DNS. Restarting your router can help, or try another network such as mobile data.
* Check that the change was made in the right place. See [Where to edit your DNS](/dns/where-to-edit-dns.md).

Still stuck? [Open a ticket](/support/open-a-ticket.md) with your domain name and what you changed.
