To publish a website you built yourself, you upload its files to your hosting account. This guide shows two ways: File Manager in your browser, and an FTP app for larger uploads.
Your website’s files go in the public_html folder. Files there are what visitors see at yourdomain.com.

Option 1: File Manager (in your browser)

Best for a few files, or a single zip file of your whole site.
1

Open File Manager

Log in to cPanel, type File Manager in the Search Tools box and open it.
2

Open public_html

In the folder list on the left, click public_html.
3

Upload

Click Upload in the toolbar, then drag your files onto the page or choose them from your computer. Wait until each file shows as complete.
4

Unzip if needed

If you uploaded a .zip file, go back to public_html, right-click the file and choose Extract. Then delete the zip file.
Your home page file must be named index.html or index.php, and sit directly inside public_html, not in a sub-folder. Otherwise visitors may see an error or a list of files.

Option 2: FTP (with an app)

Best for many files or large websites. Use a free FTP app such as FileZilla (Windows, Mac and Linux) or Cyberduck (Mac and Windows).

FTP settings

Replace yourdomain.com with your own domain. Choose explicit FTP over TLS in your app if it asks, so your password is sent securely.
ftp.yourdomain.com only works once your domain points to HostCloud. See Point your domain to HostCloud.

Create an FTP account (optional)

Give a developer their own FTP login instead of sharing your cPanel password.
1

Open FTP Accounts

In cPanel, type FTP Accounts in the Search Tools box and open it.
2

Fill in the details

Under Add FTP Account, enter a Log In name and a strong Password. In Directory, choose the folder they can reach, for example public_html. They won’t see anything outside it.
3

Create the account

Click Create FTP Account. Their username is the full name shown, for example dev@yourdomain.com.
On the FTP Accounts page, click Configure FTP Client next to an account to see its settings, or download a ready-made setup file for CoreFTP (Windows) or Cyberduck (Mac).
Delete FTP accounts you no longer need from the same page. Still stuck? Open a ticket with your domain name and the error your app shows.
