An EPP code (also called an auth code or transfer code) is like a password for your domain. Your new provider asks for it to prove you own the domain. This guide shows you how to get it.
Moving a domain to HostCloud? You need the code from your current provider instead. See Transfer a domain to HostCloud.

Before you start

  • The domain must be at least 60 days old, and at least 60 days must have passed since its last transfer.
  • It mustn’t be expired. Renew it first if it is. See Renewals.
  • Turn off registrar lock, or the transfer will be rejected. See Turn on auto-renew and registrar lock.
  • Check the domain’s contact email. Under Contact Information, make sure the email address is one you can read. Transfer messages may be sent there.

Get the code

1

Open the domain

In the Client Area, click Domains in the top menu. On the domain’s row, click the ⋯ menu and choose Manage Domain.
2

Open Get EPP Code

In the domain’s sidebar, click Get EPP Code.
3

Get the code

Follow the instructions on the page. Depending on the domain extension, the code is shown on screen or sent to the domain’s contact email address.
Give the code to your new provider when they ask for it. Keep it private: anyone with the code and an unlocked domain could try to transfer it.

Don’t see Get EPP Code?

Some extensions, such as .co.in, don’t show Get EPP Code in the sidebar. Open a ticket with the domain name, and we’ll help you get the code.
Moving your domain doesn’t move your website or email. If they’re hosted with HostCloud, they keep working only as long as the domain’s nameservers still point to HostCloud and your hosting stays active.
Still stuck? Open a ticket with the domain name.
