A forwarder sends copies of incoming email to another address. An autoresponder replies automatically, for example while you’re on holiday. This guide shows you how to set up both in cPanel.

Forward email to another address

Useful when, for example, sales@yourdomain.com should also reach your personal phone, or a staff member has left and their email should go to someone else.
1

Open Forwarders

Log in to cPanel, type Forwarders in the Search Tools box and open it.
2

Add a forwarder

Click Add Forwarder.
3

Fill in the details

  • Address to Forward: the part before the @, and choose your domain.
  • Destination: choose to forward to an email address, and enter where it should go.
4

Save

Click Add Forwarder. New emails are forwarded straight away.
The address you forward from doesn’t need to be a real mailbox. A forwarder on its own (for example, info@yourdomain.com forwarding to your mailbox) is a free way to have extra addresses.
Forwarding to Gmail, Outlook.com or Yahoo can make spam look like it’s coming from your server, and those providers may then block or delay your forwarded mail. Where possible, add your HostCloud mailbox to your app instead of forwarding. See Set up email on your phone or computer.
To stop forwarding, open Forwarders again and delete the forwarder.

Send an automatic reply

1

Open Autoresponders

In cPanel, type Autoresponders in the Search Tools box and open it.
2

Add an autoresponder

Click Add Autoresponder.
3

Write your reply

  • Email: the address that should reply, and your domain.
  • From and Subject: your name, and a subject such as Out of office.
  • Body: your message, for example when you’ll be back and who to contact meanwhile.
  • Interval: how many hours to wait before replying again to the same sender. This stops back-and-forth loops. 8 to 24 hours works well.
4

Set when it runs

Choose a Start time and a Stop time, so it switches itself off when you’re back.
5

Save

Click Create.
Don’t put sensitive details, such as your home address or travel plans, in an auto-reply. It goes to anyone who emails you, including spammers.
You can also set forwarding and auto-replies from inside Webmail. Still stuck? Open a ticket with the email address you’re setting up.
